Legion allied races: recruitment and heritage

Asyncio 30 October 2026 39

The four Legion allied races, the Nightborne, Highmountain Tauren, Void Elves and Lightforged Draenei, are unlocked through recruitment at the embassy. It takes longer than the level 110 races, but it rewards a racial mount and, later on, heritage armor. An overview of all races is in the Allied races guide.

What you need before recruitment

You need a level 110 character of the race's faction. If you do not meet the requirements of any race of your faction, the recruitment quest will not be offered.

Recruitment step by step

  1. Enter Dalaran with a level 110 character and you will be offered "The Call for Allies".
  2. Head to the embassy: the Alliance goes to Anduin in Stormwind, the Horde to Sylvanas in Orgrimmar. The next quest, "A Choice of Allies", completes right away.
  3. Talk to Anduin or Sylvanas and choose an ally. Only races whose requirements you meet will be offered.
  4. Complete the chosen race's chain. It takes you to the allies' homeland: Suramar, Highmountain, Telogrus Rift or the Vindicaar. The Highmountain chain is the longest.
  5. After the last quest your account earns "Allied Races: …", the race button on the creation screen becomes active, and the character receives a racial mount.
  6. To unlock the second race of your faction, take "A Second Ally For the Cause": only the ally you have not recruited yet will be offered.

  • The character appears at level 20, wearing a level 20 set, with four bags and a Hearthstone.
  • Next to you stands a quest giver with "For the Horde" or "For the Alliance". The follow-up, "Stranger in a Strange Land", sends you to the Orgrimmar or Stormwind embassy, and from there you level as usual.
  • Highmountain Tauren Druids get their own shapeshift forms, different from those of regular Tauren.

Heritage armor

  • When a character of an allied race reaches level 110 on their own, through normal leveling from level 20, they are offered a "Heritage of…" quest (the Void, the Lightforged, the Nightborne or Highmountain).
  • The reward is the race's heritage armor for transmogrification and the "Heritage of…" achievement.
  • The quest is not offered to a character that was boosted to level 100, created from a level 110 template or turned into an allied race by a race change, even if they later reached 110 themselves.
  • Do not keep your quest log full as you approach level 110: the quest is offered once, at the moment you gain the level.

Exalted reputation is the longest part of the way. Start doing emissary and world quests for the right faction early, while you work through the campaign, and your reputation will be nearly done by the time you recruit.
